The Saudi Open will take place at Riyadh Golf Club from 8 – 10 of December 2022 on the Asian Development Tour. The tournament which is organised by Golf Saudi and has a purse of $200,000, will see the winner qualify for the 2023 edition of the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers. The event marks a historic moment for the Asian Development Tour (ADT), the first event in the Kingdom as part of the games growth in the region. The ADT has been a springboard to the Asian Tour for dozens of players, including reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion Joohyung Kim of Korea – who also recently won the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour – and American John Catlin, a four-time winner on the Asian Tour.

Faisal Salhab, one of Saudi Arabia’s most exciting talents took the victory last season, with a total score of 11 under-par after three rounds. A total of 88 players from 27 countries took part in the tournament, which is open to both professionals and amateurs from the Middle East and North Africa. The field was cut at the end of day two, with just 60 golfers going through to compete the final round. In 2022, the event is open to all of Asia, and the event expects over 50 players to be making the journey from countries such as Thailand, Singapore and Korea. The total field number will be 120 with approximately 25 Saudi’s lining up in the field.

Host venue of the Saudi Open, the facility boasts a challenging 18-hole golf course with exceptional practice facilities. The course’s undulating terrain, wide fairways and manicured greens offer golfers a pleasurable and challenging experience. The manmade lakes and streams traversing into the whole course aim to keep golfers at the top of their game, whilst strategically placed pins will keep the total scores competitive. 

After recent refurbishments, the club now offers a leisure Padel club, restaurant, Shisha Lounge and outdoor terrace with large screens for events.

ASIAN DEVELOPMENT TOUR

The Asian Development Tour, founded in 2010, is a professional golf tour, enabling players to pursue their dreams of playing on the Asian Tour. The top five players on the order of merit at the end of the year, will earn their Asian Tour Card for the following season. Tournaments carry world ranking points, and mainly are played across Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia. 

Due to Covid-19, the tour has been on hold for three years, and the new season will enable locations such as Saudi Arabia, to showcase its talent and facilities, whilst offering superb hospitality to traveling players.
